The Waterford Junior High String Ensemble represents a growing commitment by the Waterford Unified School District to equitable, sequential music education. Established through the use of Proposition 28 funds, the district launched a comprehensive string program beginning at the fourth-grade level, creating a sustainable instructional pipeline. Now in its second year of existence, the Waterford Junior High String Ensemble draws primarily from students who are direct products of this initial districtwide investment.
Waterford is a rural community located east of Modesto, with a population of approximately less than 10,000. Waterford Junior High School serves roughly 250 students, while Waterford High School enrolls approximately 589 students. Although the district qualifies as Title I, students continue to thrive musically and academically. The string program has also been a recipient of the Raymus Foundation Grant, which has provided essential support for the purchase of instruments over the past several years, ensuring increased access and long-term program stability.
