Participants will learn to incorporate multiple aspects of the World Music Drumming Curriculum into grades 3-6 through hands-on activities. Paul will introduce pedagogical concepts found in Unit One, including high and low tone, “my turn/your turn” activities, complementary rhythms, ways to begin easy improvisation, and basic techniques, culminating in an understanding of Ensemble One. Keywords - such as respect, focus, and listen – are inherent in this approach, which helps every child in your classroom become a member of the music-making community. Ideas and ways to incorporate singing and additional classroom instruments such as Orff instruments and recorders will also be explored. Ideas to expand your options to allow for all students to have an instrument even when your collection of drums is still in the growing phase will also be discussed. No prior drumming experience is necessary; come discover this curriculum that helps every student become a confident music maker!
