The clinician will discuss the importance of the role of the bow in string technique and musicianship and numerous detailed bow techniques, tips, and suggestions will be offered to achieve the desired string tone and sound. All types and instrument bows will be discussed. Clinic will include beginning and advanced techniques, so this session is suitable for all levels. Detailed clinic content will include: bow holds, changing bow positions, angle in proximity to the bridge, bow weight, the basics of bowing string parts, bow collaboration with the left hand, and much, much more. Too much focus is often put on intonation and the left hand when the bow is, similar to air in a vocalist, the key to a great musical sound.

Albert Y Jeung
Albert Jeung is the Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator for the Capistrano Unified School District. Previously he was the Director of Orchestras (and Bands for five years) at Aliso Niguel High School in the Capistrano Unified School District where he built the orchestra program into one of the largest school orchestra programs in the state. He served as President of the Southern California School Band and orchestra Association for four years. He has been a guest clinician at many music education state and regional conferences and has conducted numerous youth and honor orchestras in in the states of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Utah, and Nevada. His many awards include: “Educator of the Year for Instrumental Music” for Orange County, the CA Music Education Association “Orchestra Educator of the Year,” and the “Honorary Life Member Award” by the Southern CA School Band and Orchestra Association for a lifetime achievement in music education.
