The fusion of elementary general music and effective classroom management can create a synergy that nurtures students' engagement, motivation, and overall development. During this workshop, the clinician will integrate proactive classroom management techniques and community-building exercises to cultivate engagement and motivation among elementary general music students. The clinician will present activities encompassing enactive, iconic, and symbolic learning; pacing and instruction; community-building activities; and compassionate approaches to classroom management. Dr. Jennifer Gee is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Music Education at San Diego State University. Her research focuses on proactive and compassionate classroom management and music integration in the elementary classroom. Gee has presented at the American Orff-Schulwerk Association National Conference, College Music Society National Conference, Desert Skies Symposium, International Society for Music Education World Conference, Mountain Lake Colloquium, National Association for Music Education Research Conference, and Symposium on Music Teacher Education. Her research has been published in the College Music Symposium, International Journal of Music Education, Journal of Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and Visions of Research in Music Education.
