Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process through which students develop self-regulation and relationship skills. Arguably, the study and performance of music may be an ideal avenue by which these competencies can be built. This clinic will review the tenets of SEL with the conversation focused on a curriculum created as a companion document to the 2023 California Band Directors Association Social Impact Consortium. Attendees will reflect on how these techniques may be used in their spaces and leave with some ideas for using music to address SEL competencies.
