The focus of this hands-on session is to enable participants to apply the pedagogical aspects found in the World Music Drumming Curriculum to additional ensemble pieces that allow for using many more of the instruments typically found in the elementary room: Orff instruments, recorders, sound effect percussion instruments, non-pitched percussion, and more. Each ensemble addresses specifical musical skills that are often challenges for the elementary student, creating an engaging process for improvement and mastery of these concepts. Activities will help participants gain a greater understanding of how to teach these ensembles to their students, emphasizing connections between individual instruments and multiple instruments. Step by step process will be included to show participants how these seemingly complex ensembles can be mastered by elementary general music students. No prior drumming experience is necessary.
