All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Music Class: The Role of Music Educators in Career Readiness

Music educators often find themselves as the primary source of guidance for students on their campuses – for everything. As the educational landscape continues to evolve with a greater, more formalized emphasis on career readiness and education, the music educator’s role in shaping students' holistic development becomes even more significant – and challenging – than ever.

This session will celebrate the powerful influence of music education on students' career development and discuss how music educators can adopt a student-centered, inclusive, and future-oriented approach to career preparation. Attendees will gain practical strategies, tools, information, and resources to easily integrate career education into their curriculum, empowering students to navigate and thrive in the modern workforce confidently and independently, leveraging their arts education for their future success.

Nicole Izzo Mlynczak

Nicole Izzo Mlynczak (she/her) champions a compassionate, relationship-based approach to teaching, learning, and leadership to create environments that enable exploration, creativity, communication, and collaboration. Nicole is the Director of Programming and Media at Salt Lick Incubator, a non-profit supporting emerging musicians’ growth, well-being, and careers through grants, workshops, retreats, and the signature Salt Lick Sessions. Previously, as Director of Career Education at Berklee, she worked with Academic Affairs to boost student and alumni success through internships, Co-Ops, and professional development curricula, managed Berklee’s student employment and mentoring programs, maintained strategic industry-facing partnerships, and served thousands of students as a career advisor, helping them identify their strengths, values, and skills to build their careers. With degrees in performance and music education from LSU, and extensive experience in performing and K-12 teaching, Nicole draws from her uniquely comprehensive career to offer consulting and speaking engagements on arts education, career development, and education strategy.
