Advocating for Anti-Ableist Practices: for Performances, Concerts, and Assemblies

Thursday – January 15, 2026 at 4:00 PM

We believe it is time to dismantle archaic etiquette rules and create artistic spaces that are inclusive of all students and their families. In this workshop, participants will: reflect on ableist practices in our educational spaces, discuss different ways to advocate and implement anti-ableist practices, and gain ideas on how to create sensory friendly music concerts, theatre productions, and awards ceremonies. This will be a highly participatory workshop: we will spend time reflecting on our own circumstances, share current practices, and leave with a commitment to create more inviting, relaxed, and inclusive experiences for our school communities.
