The clinician will demonstrate how to maximize music-making & minimize teacher talking in an elementary music lesson plan, all while embedding essential music instruction. In this session, participants will have the opportunity to participate as "students" in an elementary music class by singing and playing instruments throughout. After the model lesson, the clinician will break down the tools and tips of how to maintain musical momentum.

Theresa Lopes-Medina
Stanislaus Union School District
Theresa is an elementary music teacher at Stanislaus Union School District. She has taught elementary/middle school general and instrumental music, including band, Orff, and ukulele. Prior to teaching, Theresa attended CSU, Fresno, where she obtained her BA in Music Education, graduating summa cum laude with honors from the Smittcamp Family Honors College as well as the College of Arts and Humanities Honors Program. Thereafter completing her CA Teaching Credential at Fresno State.
Theresa has become increasingly interested in the work of the late Dr. Edwin E Gordon and implementing his research into her teaching practice. She has served on the Board for the CA Gordon Institute for Music Learning as a Member at Large, Media Tech, and now Secretary. Through her involvement in this organization, she has presented at CA GIML Chapter workshops and events.
Outside of teaching, Theresa has served on the worship team at her community church, participated as a flautist in several cycles of the Central California Wind Ensemble, and sung with the Chamber Singers at Fresno State. At home, she makes music around the piano with the two most important people in her life, her husband and daughter, Anthony and Autumn Medina.
