Breaking Bad Habits: Tools for Helping String Students Build Healthy Technique

Friday – January 16, 2026 at 1:00 PM

All string teachers have worked with students who struggle to change unhelpful technical habits—rigid bow holds, collapsed wrists, overly tight vibrato, or playing with tension under pressure. These habits not only limit musical growth but can also lead to frustration or even injury. This clinic will explore evidence-backed techniques for bringing unconscious habits into awareness and building new, sustainable movement patterns. Attendees will learn strategies for diagnosing the root causes of common issues, integrating technical corrections into the rehearsal process, and fostering body awareness in young players. Educators will leave with concrete, adaptable tools to help their students play with greater ease, expression, and confidence.
