The clinician will show how to create an inclusive general music class using pop music and supports for Spanish-speaking students. Attendees will explore practical ways to teach general music on a limited budget. The session will show how pop music can be used to teach theory and musicianship skills in engaging, relevant ways. The clinician will also share strategies that promote equity and inclusion for Spanish-speaking students in the music classroom.

Valley High School
Ammy Beltran is a music educator at Valley High School, a Title I school in Santa Ana, California, where she co-leads a student-driven music department with Joaquin Hernandez. During the school day, they teach Modern Musicianship, choir, orchestra, drumline, and color guard. After school, students lead ensembles like marching band, rock bands, mariachi, and musical theatre. Their goal is to develop well-rounded musicians who explore multiple roles and genres. With over 12 years of teaching experience, Ammy centers equity, access, and cultural relevance in her work. She was a quarterfinalist for the 2026 GRAMMY Music Educator Award.
