Pyramids of Success! Enhancing Performance Preparation and Student Empowerment

Friday – January 15, 2027 at 11:00 AM | B3

Dr. Jane K. Brown will present the "Pyramid of Preparation," an easy-to-use system that facilitates teacher-student discussions about how the preparation of their chosen concert repertoire is progressing. This system is not only helpful for teacher planning, but also empowering for students. It is beneficial for all types of performance ensembles, including bands, choirs, and orchestras at all levels – elementary through adult.

As students become conversant with this system, they will be better able to discuss and analyze their own performances and set their own learning goals.

After an initial introduction that shows how the Pyramid works, workshop attendees will be invited to read short representative works and then discuss how they would help students use the Pyramid to analyze their performance. Free digital copies of the Pyramid will be available to educators who attend the workshop, as well as desk-sized, 8.5 x 11 paper copies.

Target Audience

Directors of any performance ensemble--elementary, secondary, or collegiate/adult
