How to Teach Music Production with Limited Experience

Friday – January 15, 2027 at 2:00 PM | A9

Many students want to make beats and create original songs that sound like the music they already love. Many teachers want to support that creativity, but with limited production experience, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start.

In this hands-on session, teachers will learn a beginner-friendly process for teaching music production in grades 5 and up. Using accessible, device-friendly tools, attendees will learn how students can create drums, chords, basslines, and melodies without traditional performance skills or prior music theory. The session emphasizes student choice, culturally relevant music-making, and practical strategies that help more students see themselves as musicians.

No music tech experience is required for teachers, and no musical training is required for students.

Target Audience
