This session explores how Chicago school brass pedagogy, especially Arnold Jacobs’s song and wind concepts, can inform practical brass fundamentals in today’s ensembles. Designed for a mixed audience with a specific focus on brass, the clinic connects historical brass pedagogy with current research on motor learning, external focus, and inclusive teaching practice. Participants will engage in guided listening, audiation, optional playing, and rehearsal based demonstrations that translate these ideas into immediately usable warmups, cue language, and troubleshooting strategies for diverse school and studio settings.
Target Audience
Elementary through High School band directors, studio instructors
