This presentation will be a panel discussion with recently graduated Credential Candidates who have embarked on their first and second year of teaching. Participants will represent Band, Orchestra, and Choral instruction at the Elementary, Middle and High school levels. Panelists will share valuable experiences that may inspire a new teacher’s vision for the future. Lots of opportunity to ask questions as you consider how you will navigate your first year

Dr. Kim Mieder
California State University - Sonoma
Dr Mieder is a five-time nominee of “Who’s Who in American Teachers.” She has served as director of bands, orchestra, and piano studies at the elementary, middle, and high school level in Hillsborough County Florida for 20 years. Her concert, jazz, orchestral ensembles, and marching bands have consistently received superior honors at district music performance assessments. Dr. Mieder currently serves the Music Department at California State University – Sonoma as Director of the Music Education, leading the Teacher Credential program. She also teaches Brass, String and Percussion Methods, as well as Elementary Music and Lecture courses in American and Western European Music. She is the founding Director and Conductor of the community outreach program Noma Winds, providing high school instrumentalists an opportunity to further their musical development and undergraduate music education majors with teaching and rehearsal experience. Dr. Mieder is a published author in both international research and state music journals and has co-authored several book chapters pertaining to the topic of adolescent self-regulation in music learning.
