The Pacific Alphorn Ensemble is a unique undergraduate performance ensemble at the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music that explores brass pedagogy and community engagement through the Swiss alphorn tradition. Formed through Pacific’s involvement in The Alphorn Project, the ensemble integrates historical performance practice with modern brass instruction in an innovative and highly accessible format.
The ensemble has quickly become one of Pacific’s most visible recruitment and outreach initiatives, performing at regional and national events, community performances, and collegiate conferences. Students perform on full-size Swiss alphorns while also engaging audiences through brief educational commentary, cultural context, and interactive demonstrations.
This open-space performance would provide conference attendees with a distinctive and engaging musical experience while highlighting creative approaches to brass pedagogy, experiential learning, and student-centered performance opportunities at the collegiate level.
