The SDSU Wind Symphony is the top wind group at San Diego State University. The SDSU ensemble has been featured at national and regional performances, including: College Band Director’s National Association (CBDNA) National Conference, CBDNA Western/Northwestern Regional Conference, California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC) “Headliner Concert,” the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) Conference, the San Diego Arts Empower Conference. and the California Music Educator’s Association – Southern Border Section (CMEA-SBS) conference.
The SDSU Wind Symphony is dedicated the creation of new music, regularly premiering works by prominent composers, SDSU faculty, and student composers. Some composers include: Frank Ticheli, Jocelyn Hagen, Catherine Likhuta, Kevin Day, Joel Puckett, David Maslanka, Alan Hovhannes, Benjamin Taylor, Steven Byrant, Michael Daugherty, and Karel Husa.
SDSU is the third largest CSU and the only to have earned Research 1 (R1) status, signifying its place among the top research universities in the US.
